Cara Menginstal Linux Damn Small
- Burn dsl-4.11.rc1.iso on a CD using Brasero Disc Burner / CD Burner XP.
- Boot computer using your DSL CD.
- On Boot-up screen, type install and press Enter key.
- After scrolling a long list of process and detection. You will reach CLI[Command Line Menu] prompting.
If you don’t have partition drive – then, type 10 [Partition Tool cfdisk] and press Enter key, - In next screen, you will be prompted for drive to partition. Type hda and press Enter key,
- In following screen, you will be detailed with your hard drive partition signature. If there is no partition, you will be prompted for zero fill – type y and press Enter key,
- cfdisk Partition Utility screen will appear with entire details about your drive space. Now, you need to create partition for installation.
- Now, follow closely – We will use this pattern to create partition. Size > System > Location > Type > Write.
- Create first Linux Swap partition of 64MB > Primary > Begining. Move to Type, and enter option 82 which is Linux Swap. Then, select Write and get agree by input yes.
- Create second partition Linux file system of 200MB for DSL installation. 200MB > Logical > Beginning. Select Type, and enter option 83 which is Linux. Then, select Write and get agree by input yes. Note – Installation partition less than 200MB will break installation. So, Be Sure.
- Create third and final partition for saving changes in DSL – You may chose any size. 216MB > Logical > End. Select Type, and enter option 83 which is Linux. Then, select Write and get agree by input yes.
- Finally, Choose Quit for cfdisk Format Utility, and press Enter key again for confirmation.
- DSL Install Option screen will appear again, input number referringInstall to Hard Drivei.e. 2 in my case and press enter key.
- Next screen will ask you multiple question related to partition, users, file system.
- For, Target partition – Enter partition name which 200MB disk space – hda5 in my case.
- If you want authorize multiple user access, then, choose yes else press enter,
- If you want you file-system to be Ext3 [which is faster and secure than Ext2], input y press enter,
- Finally, there will be warning about formating your hda5, if you are sure then input y press enter,
- When installation finish, you will be prompted to install boot-loader on your system, input y and press enter,
- Then, you will be prompted for Grub or Lilo on active partition. I suggest Grub, input g and press enter,
- You will be asked whether you have windows installed on your first partition, in my case, DSL is only copy. So, input n and press enter,
- After installation of Boot-loader, you will be prompted to reboot your system. Input y and press enter.
Finalization
- Reboot your system again, without CD. On boot-screen, choose any option as per preference, and press enter,
- After setup scroll-up a couple of screen, you will be asked for Root user password setup. Input password of your choice and press enter, and retype your password again to confirm.
- After setting up root user password, you will be prompted for dsl user password, Input password of your choice, and press enter, and retype your password again to confirm. I suggest you must choose to different password for each user type.
- When everything is done, DSL X Setup will appear on screen, I suggest forXVESA [xserver] which is much faster than XFBDEV [frame-buffer], highlight it and press enter,
- If you are using USB mouse – then highlight yes and press enter, outherwise, choose no and select port which is used by your mouse [chance of PS2].
- Choose screen-resolution for your environment, I prefer working with 800X600 and press enter,
- While choosing color depth go for 24 bit max. That’s all supported by xVESA.
- I suggest you to skip dpi [DotPerInch] initialization by choosing no,
- Finally, Choose your preferred language. In my case, it is EN-US and press enter.
- Finally, it all come to an end and you will served with your DSL desktop for first time.
